About
Baby Art Department has been created to provide equal opportunities for all and to help build career paths through a traditionally inaccessible sector. Our bootcamps are designed to arm newcomers with knowledge and confidence about entering this highly competitive, but often unexplained and intimidating part of the industry.
We aim to bridge the gap between those who otherwise would not have access to contacts in the industry and HODs looking for entry level crew who have a level of foundational training. We aim to provide a broad overview of what it means to assist in the Art, Props, Set Dec, Graphics and Set Building departments.
In the opening up of this category we are committed to a diverse profile in both the allocation of places on the bootcamps and subsequently those who prove successful and get good feedback are invited to be on the Art Department roster.
Baby Art Department has been created to provide equal opportunities for all and to build career paths through a previously inaccessible sector. This will be reinforced with a series of workshops designed to arm newcomers into this highly creative department in the industry.
We are currently building alliances with relevant educational bodies that will be available to those who otherwise would not have this access to contacts within the industry.
We will be providing a number of runner and trainee places on our roster some of which will be allocated on a deferred fees basis to passionate and talented individuals.
This will apply to those who have completed a Baby Art Department Asssisting course with the aim of helping them get those crucial first jobs..
Once they are established on a career path they have the option to join the main Art Department community in their chosen area.
In the opening up of this category here at Art Department we are committed to a diverse and inclusive profile in both the appointment and the allocation of places on our roster.

Bootcamps
The industry has always depended on reliable and knowledgeable crew, and assistants and trainees are no exception. With this in mind and with a desire to help people from diverse and under represented backgrounds into the industry, in 2023 we ran our first one day bootcamp for Prop and Art department trainees. Since then we have partnered with Sky Elstree and All Spring Media to provide funded two week long bootcamps and are proud to have trained over sixty people.
Our aim is to teach some universal key skills which mean that students will be able to assist and be useful from the moment they step onto a busy production. We also give them an oversight into how a modern production functions, and how it looks on different scales and sectors, not only in terms of shoot days, but also the weird and wonderful world of working in the Props, Art, Set Dec, Graphics or Standby, departments. By giving a trainee taster day in each we hope to arm students with the knowledge to make them empathetic colleagues and approach their job hunting in the most efficient and confident way possible.
