Andrew Williamson
CONCEPT DESIGNER AND VFX ART DIRECTOR
Andrew is a concept artist/designer and VFX art director with many years’ experience across all areas of the industry.
He qualified as an architect at the University of Cambridge. After some years in practice he turned full-time to illustration before being recruited by Stuart Craig to join the art department for ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ as a concept artist. He remained for the duration of the franchise, alongside working on other high-profile films including ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ and ‘Gravity’. He was among the first to use 3D digital techniques in concept art.
Andrew Joined the VFX facility DNEG in 2011, where he founded and headed the company’s art department, supervising its concept output on numerous projects both pre- and post- production.
Andrew has also worked for television, from BBC ‘Jackanory’ to ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 In Christian Huband’s art department. He has worked on commercials, designed stage sets and themed attractions, and drawn a newspaper cartoon strip. In publishing, “Harry Potter: A Pop-up Book: Based on the Film Phenomenon” , which he illustrated, was the winner of a gold medal in the IP Book Awards in the US.
