Audi comes fast and clean with Tom Hardy at the wheel!

The new spot for Audi..Its first fully electric sports car – the Audi e-tron GT WOW! It really is super fast!
The commercial was filmed over 2 stages at Black Island Studios, during lockdown and was directed by Sebastian Grousset of Marken Films (Hamburg) and facilitated here in the UK by Zap Productions with Mark Parsons producing.
The art department team was headed up by John Bramble Production Designer, with Grant Bailey art directing and set decoration by Derek Scriminger.
Art Department’s Propmasters Aaron Batterham and Simon Clifft were on sand wrangling duties.
The biggest challenge of the job was getting the clients to agree on a colour for the desert ..should have been straight forward enough..but this went on for more than a week, deciding between Dubai red sand and golden sand..the final answer only being made a couple of days before the shoot was golden sand – (we ditched the order for Dubai red sand placed 2 days earlier..)!
The scenery and car on the stages were merged seamlessly with those created in CGI- using the Unreal Engine 3D software platform -(originally developed for gaming).
TH looks quizzically cool in this ad..for a politically correct muscle car of the future.. now!

Roadkill killing it!!

BBC’s gripping tale of skulduggery in Downing Street – who would have thought such characters could be in charge of the country!!  Hugh Laurie shines as a master of deceit defending his public persona while on the rise to the chief ministerial position.  Designed by Nick Palmer ably supported by Art Departments Steph Odu as Art Director she shared some of her experiences with us whilst working on this thriller -:

We filmed in and around London with a few set builds. The job actually went from being largely locations to including quite a few set builds. We had a great small team that brought it all together in tight turnaround times.

Our biggest set was a prison interior built at a site in Dagenham – the site is soon to be a new film studio! I oversaw the install at this site. I was also responsible for handling the art budget for this four-part series. We manufactured a lot of our own detailed items, and we probably know more than we would care to know about the interiors of prisons and the prison industrial complex itself (the series looks very closely at the privatisation of prisons and why this is an incentive for keeping them full!) – it spurred many art dept convos. We had bespoke prison cell door locks made and managed to recycle some of the more robust parts of the set. So if you now hire any new prison doors or blue prison bars/gates from stockyard they will have likely come from our set!

The car crash at the end of episode two was also overseen by me. This is a combination of an expertly designed rig courtesy of Toby at Artem and VFX courtesy of Gary at Technicolor.


The Third Day

The latest drama The Third Day from Dennis Kelly is the sort of series that is designed to hook you in to a full-on binge session watching it but to say too much would be to spoil its well-earned twists and turns.

The action takes place on the mysterious island of Osea over three time periods – ‘Summer’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘Winter’ – and begins with Jude Law’s troubled Sam preventing a tragedy. Sam, who is in the midst of a prolonged nervous breakdown following a devastating event, is running from both family and work. Unfortunately for him he ends up on the remote island of Osea — and that’s where things start to get very weird indeed.
